Field Trip Biodiversity Forum to Ladang YP Hevea Kuala Sat, Ulu Tembeling, Jerantut, Pahang.
As part of the Biodiversity Forum 2026 programme held on 3–4 June 2026, a field trip to Ladang YP Hevea Kuala Sat, Ulu Tembeling, Jerantut, Pahang, was organised by MPOGCF on 9 June 2026.
The field trip was hosted by YP Hevea Sdn. Bhd. and supervised by a team led by Dr. Tengku Rinalfi Putra from Universiti Putra Malaysia.
The objective of the field trip was to provide participants with firsthand experience of visiting one of the main wildlife corridors in the Greater Taman Negara Kuala Tahan region.
This initiative aligns with the objectives of Biodiversity Forum 2026, which are to introduce the concept of coexistence within oil palm plantation landscapes, understand the challenges and constraints in implementing the coexistence concept, and facilitate knowledge sharing on long-term mitigation approaches to human-wildlife conflict.
The field trip involved 35 participants from government agencies, major palm oil industry players, and non-governmental organisations (NGOs). Activities included a field demonstration on collecting wild elephant dung samples for research purposes, Napier grass planting as part of a wild animal food bank initiative, and a knowledge-sharing session on human-wildlife conflict mitigation techniques implemented by YP Hevea. The highlight of the programme was a visit to the wildlife corridor constructed and managed by YP Hevea at Ladang Kuala Sat.
During the field trip, participants did not encounter any wild elephants. However, they observed numerous fresh elephant faeces, estimated to have been deposited only a few hours earlier, indicating that a herd of wild elephants had recently passed through the corridor.
MPOGCF hopes that participants gained valuable insights into the importance of coexistence and its benefits, not only for biodiversity conservation but also for ensuring income stability and the long-term sustainability of plantation operations.
