MPOGCF telah menyertai kumpulan penyelidik dari UiTM Shah Alam dalam lawatan ke Felda Bersia pada 11 dan 12 Disember 2025, yang merupakan lokasi kedua bagi kerja lapangan projek penyelidikan bertajuk “Biodiversity Value of Epiphytes and Understory Vegetation on Microinvertebrates Diversity and Vertebrates Abundances in Malaysian Oil Palm Ecosystem”.
Lawatan ini disertai oleh Ketua Penyelidik UiTM, Dr Siti Khairiyah binti Mohd Hatta; Penolong Pengurus Felda Bersia, Adi Azfar; serta Eksekutif Kanan Pemuliharaan dan Kemampanan MPOGCF, Zalifah Ramli.
Aktiviti utama lawatan ini ialah persampelan serangga di tiga lokasi berbeza menggunakan perangkap Malaise, iaitu di ladang berhampiran hutan, ladang di bahagian tengah dan ladang yang bersebelahan dengan jalan utama. Ketiga-tiga perangkap ini akan dibiarkan selama tempoh satu bulan bagi merekodkan spesies serangga yang hadir. Data yang diperoleh akan digunakan untuk mengenal pasti kawasan ladang yang mempunyai kepelbagaian serangga yang lebih tinggi serta menilai tahap kepelbagaian serangga dalam landskap ladang kelapa sawit.
Projek penyelidikan selama dua tahun ini ditaja oleh MPOGCF dengan peruntukan berjumlah RM221,000. Objektif utama projek ini adalah untuk mengenal pasti jenis flora yang terdapat di ladang sawit, menilai peranan flora tersebut terhadap kepelbagaian spesies fauna, serta membandingkan amalan pengurusan antara pekebun kecil dan syarikat perladangan berskala besar.
Dua kaedah utama yang digunakan ialah tinjauan kepelbagaian tumbuhan dan kepelbagaian haiwan. Kajian flora tertumpu kepada dua kumpulan, iaitu tumbuhan epifit yang menumpang pada batang sawit dan tumbuhan bawah teduhan (understory vegetation). Sementara itu, kajian fauna melibatkan kumpulan invertebrata, mamalia kecil dan burung.
Kerja lapangan seterusnya dijangka akan dijalankan pada bulan Januari 2026 bagi merekodkan spesies flora yang terdapat di ladang kelapa sawit.

MPOGCF participated in a field visit to Felda Bersia on 11 and 12 December 2025 together with a research team from UiTM Shah Alam. Felda Bersia is the second study site for the fieldwork of a research project entitled “Biodiversity Value of Epiphytes and Understory Vegetation on Microinvertebrates Diversity and Vertebrates Abundances in Malaysian Oil Palm Ecosystem.”
The visit was attended by the Principal Investigator from UiTM, Dr Siti Khairiyah binti Mohd Hatta; the Assistant Manager of Felda Bersia, Adi Azfar; and MPOGCF’s Senior Executive for Conservation and Sustainability, Zalifah Ramli.
The main activity of the visit was insect sampling conducted at three different locations using Malaise traps, namely oil palm plots adjacent to forest areas, plots in the central plantation area, and plots located alongside the main road. All three traps will be left in the field for one month to record the insect species present. The data collected will be used to identify areas with higher insect diversity in plantations and to assess the overall level of insect biodiversity within the oil palm plantation landscape.
MPOGCF funds this two-year research project with a total allocation of RM221,000. The main objectives of the project are to identify the types of flora present in oil palm plantations, evaluate the role of these plant groups in supporting faunal diversity and compare management practices between smallholders and large-scale plantation companies.
Two main methods are employed in the study: surveys of plant diversity and animal diversity. The flora study focuses on two groups, namely epiphytes growing on oil palm trunks and understory vegetation. Meanwhile, the fauna study involves invertebrates, small mammals and birds.
The next phase of fieldwork is expected to be conducted in January 2026 to record the flora species present in the oil palm plantation.
