The Malaysian Palm Oil Green Conservation Foundation (MPOGCF) has donated RM49,350 to the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre (BSBCC) in Sepilok, Sandakan.
This donation is in support of MPOGCF’s efforts to conserve the Bornean sun bear, which is increasingly at risk of extinction. MPOGCF believes that the rehabilitation and release program implemented by BSBCC is a sustainable and high-impact conservation model. The MPOGCF contribution was presented by the Deputy Secretary-General (Strategic Planning and Management) of the Ministry of Plantations and Commodities, who is also a member of the MPOGCF Board of Trustees, YBhg. Dato’ Abdul Hadi Omar, to the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of BSBCC, Dr. Wong Swie Te, when he led the MPOGCF visit on 17 February.
Also participating in the visit were the Deputy Secretary-General (Plantations and Commodities) of the Ministry of Plantations and Commodities, YBhg. Dato’ Razali Mohamad; Director-General of the Malaysian Cocoa Board, YBhg. Datuk Dr. Ramli Hj Kasin; Members of the MPOGCF Board of Trustees, YBrs. Dr. Ramlee Moslim and YBrs. Andy Lee Yiew Meng; and General Manager of MPOGCF, YBrs. Hairulazim Mahmud.
The involvement of MPOGCF, which represents Malaysian palm oil industry players, proves the seriousness and determination of this industry to preserve and conserve national treasures. It also sends a clear signal to the world that, apart from being concerned with economic profits, the country’s palm oil industry also does not forget its responsibility to protect ecology and biodiversity.
